Celebrate Our History:
Building Swimming Stars for Over 50 Years!
It's hard to imagine it's been 50 years since Fort Wayne Aquatics got its start as Fort Wayne's "Club Olympia", a private social/sport club that was home to some of Fort Wayne's most deliberate, focused, and talented swimmers.
Back in the day it was called "Club O" and was lead by legendary coach Stefen Hunyadfi, honored in the International Swimming Hall of Fame as having been an Olympic swimming coach more times than any coach living in North America. He produced his first U.S. Olympic champion, Sharon Wichman, through "Club O", Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1968.
Sharon became the first American woman in the history of the Olympic Games to capture the 200m breaststroke title. She also won the bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke, just missing the gold by three tenths of a second.
Matt Vogel, 2-time 1976 Olympic Gold Medalist in the 100m butterfly and 4x100m medley relay, got his start at "Club O". And, like the old Norelco commercial, he liked the program so much he came back 30 years later to pick up the torch and head Fort Wayne Aquatics into the future!
Many Fort Wayne swimmers got their feet wet in our program over the years! We invite you to allow your children to join us in shaping the future of competitive swimming in Fort Wayne, Indiana!
We promise it'll be ride you won't forget!
